The company Zayintec presents its vegetables 'With heart and star' to be sold in food chains

Zayintec, a company established on the Science and Technology Park of Almer�a (PITA), has presented today its vegetables 'With heart and star' in a ceremony framed by the signing of an agreement with Tecnova Technological Centre in the Headquarters of the PITA.

This agreement will provide reliability to the heart-shaped and star-shaped vegetables developed by Zayintec so that they can be used by the industry, through studies conducted by researchers in the area of Postharvest Technology and Packaging of Tecnova. Cucumbers and tomatoes have from now an added incentive to their scent and color: the shapes of star and heart in which Francisco Bermudez and Javier Lope have spent years researching from Zayin Technology. In the presentation there has been the manager of the company, Francisco Bermudez, together with the manager of Tecnova TC for the signature of the agreement, accompanied by the general manager of the PITA, Alfredo Sanchez.

Zayintec is currently negotiating with major distribution chains of domestic and foreign supermarkets, as well as with producers and exporters of the province of Almeria, who have showed great interest in distributing this product to the final consumer from their shelves.

The firm located in the PITA works with two business lines: the Garden Amateur line, also called urban garden line, through which they will soon offer packs with molds for fruit and vegetables to consumers; and another one based on an industrial mold allowing large-scale production. "With the first one we provide the molds directly to the users in order to plant their own vegetables in the garden. They will be available at specialized stores. With the second line we talk about expanding the commercialization to vegetable growers to deliver this evocative product directly to the consumer's table”, says Francisco Berm�dez, manager of Zayintec.

The advantages of this mold patented by Zayintec for the agricultural sector are its low cost, its ease of use, the fact of being a certified material for food use, having a quick amortization (it does not imply an additional cost in the structure of greenhouse costs) and implying the introduction to a niche market targeted to salads of fourth range, haute cuisine and cocktails.

"On the occasion of St Valentine's Day we wanted to present our unique product. Several establishments in Almeria and Madrid will with exhibit their tapas with heart-and-star-shaped cucumbers, as well as mixed drinks in which the cucumber is the leading ingredient", Bermudez explains at the press conference. This innovative product will be served as tapa and in cocktails in the establishment DeVinos and Bibelot (Almer�a) as well as in romantic salads in the restaurants Faborit (Madrid).

During the last two years Zayintec has been working and developing tests in its research farms and has obtained very successful results in Alfa Beta and Dutch-type cucumber. It has also made tests in courgette, tomato (vegetable in which greater efforts are being done to reach the ideal product), and lime and lemons for cocktails with heart shape. "In the two latter, the results have been spectacular, frankly good," said Bermudez.

The idea of shaping vegetables is not new. Many countries, especially in Asia, have been working in this field. However, the molds used for this purpose so far were not suitable for professional use, due to its high cost. "Zayintec has designed with its Industrial Engineers molds for professional use with features appropriate to bring the final product to the consumer at a reasonable cost. For this purpose, it has patented a new mold design made of certified pvc for food use that allows to get a product at costs suitable for large-scale commercialization ", says the manager of the company.

The agreement signed between Tecnova and Zayintec represents a major milestone to guarantee the reliability of the heart-and-star-shaped vegetables sold by Zayintec through research conducted by specialists of Tecnova Technology Center. Moreover, the agreement includes further actions to be carried out on technological cooperation, exchange of materials, outreach workshops as well as R&D projects related to food and agriculture, among others.

Zayin Technology is a company specializing in knowledge management and development of technological innovations in the field of horticultural seed technology, plant genetics and technology consulting. Team ‘Turabot Alfa’ made a strong effort at the First Lego League Mannheim Open. The group came away with the priceless experience of having competed in an international event, which they shared today at PITA headquarters. The team also wished to take time to thank their sponsors.

Representatives from the International Department at the Almeria Chamber of Commerce, led by manager Fernando Ruano, held a conference at the PITA Science Centre under the name ‘Solutions for Foreign Trade 2012-2013.’ In this way PITA companies were able to learn first-hand about available services.

Companies such as Zayin, Mis Asesores, Tecnova and Exceso received information about the services that the Chamber of Commerce offers to companies regarding Foreign Trade. This information was detailed by manager Fernando Ruano. The conference, which also saw the participation of PITA Business Development Director Juan Antonio D�az, addressed services such as the chamber website, which integrates all of the exporting businesses in the province associated with the Chamber. Other key services were also explained such as Servicios Canal (legal and fiscal consulting, tax refunds, etc.); Complementary Initiatives (Business Cooperation meetings, Forums for exporting SMBs, etc.); Chambers Network –a platform for international collaboration and cooperation; and Document Handling (certif�cate of origin, ATA carnets, legalizations, etc.).

The Technological Centre for the Secondary Agricultural Industry (Tecnova) and the Bioanalytical Laboratory (LAB) will begin operating very soon at the Almeria Science and Technology Park (PITA) in its ‘Pit�goras’ building. All administrative formalities have been concluded for the two entities, and only their occupation licences remain to be granted.

The Regional Minister of Economy, Innovation, Science and Labour, Antonio �vila, presided over the PITA Board of Directors meeting in which the body reviewed accounts and evaluated current projects.

Oca�a first thanked PITA for organizing the provincial championship of the First Lego League (FLL) in Almer�a and, later, for all of the support it provided towards the team’s trip to the First Lego League Open European Championship (OEC) held in Germany on 7, 8 and 9 June. ‘Turabot’ was the only team representing Andalusia at this competition.� Their participation was possible thanks to its fantastic performance at the Spanish FLL Final that took place in Pamplona on 11 March. At this championship ‘Turabot’ finished fifth overall and won a place at the international event.

FIRST� LEGO� League is an international programme that invites young people to get inspired and have fun with science and technology. The participants at FLL experienced first-hand what the entreprenuerial spirit means and also had to exercise skills and know-how related to management and planning. The Fundaci�n Scientia is the event’s national partner and its aim is to promote the values of science and technology among young people through the skills associated with teamwork, innovation and creativity. PITA is the local Almer�a partner and provincial championship organizer.

The Executive Board of Directors of the Almeria Science and Technology Park (PITA) has awarded management of the caf�-restaurant inside the Pit�goras main building to Golf Playa Serena S.L.U., a company of Grupo Gaby. Board of Directors approves six more companies for admission into Pit�goras, joining the previous 12.

PITA now has its own caf�-restaurant which will offer service to all park visitors as well as the companies established in it.

The Board of Directors has also approved six new companies for admission that had previously requested to move into the park’s main building Pit�goras. This brings the total number of companies to 18, and one more, the advertising studio Lienzo Digital S.L., has just set up at the PITA Science Centre.

More than 50 companies learn about financing opportunities for energy efficiency and conservation

The Andalusian Regional Government has organized a conference at the PITA Science Centre, in conjunction with the Agency for Innovation and Development of Andalusia (IDEA), to promote the Fund for the Promotion of Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency.

This fund exists to promote energy conservation and efficiency by providing financing for investment projects. To date, the IDEA Agency has financed five projects in the Andalusian Region with a total of 2.670.000 €.

The PITA Science Centre has been the venue for a business meeting focused on ‘State Financing Tools for Innovation.’ Specialists from the consulting firm Impulso believe that Andalusia is a “privileged” region thanks to its current technological background, which stands out despite significant budget cutbacks.

The first Spanish manufactured electric car - registered in Almer�a and already working security at PITA

The Renault Twizy, in addition to being extremely quiet, is the first electric car with 0% emissions registered in Almer�a. What’s more, for one month now it has been working surveillance of the perimeter fence at the Almer�a Science and Technology Park (PITA). It represents an innovative contribution made by the Grupo Control security company and local car dealer Renault Rombalcar.

Grupo Control has been in charge of surveillance and security at the PITA complex since November 2011. This Almer�a-based company, specializing in security, protection and surveillance systems for businesses, has once again positioned itself at the forefront of state-of-the-art technology in its sector. The Renault Twizy is a 100% electric quad bike manufactured in Spain for the global market. Grupo Control also has the distinction of being the first company in Almer�a to acquire said vehicle.

The Almer�a Young Business People Association (AJE) and the Almer�a Science and Technology Park (PITA) have signed a collaboration agreement which calls for joint initiatives that will stimulate innovation, business growth and cooperation between both entities and their members.

AJE President Alberto Guti�rrez and PITA Managing Director Alfredo S�nchez have signed an agreement between both organizations. “This represents a strategic agreement for AJE because it allows us to be present at a place like PITA, which is the main technology hub in Almer�a and a large number of our members are closely linked to technology and news technologies. It is, without question, a great honour to have signed this pact with the Park,” stated Mr. Guti�rrez. The short course offered at the University of Almer�a (UAL) Advanced Business Management and Administration celebrates its 18th edition during the 2011-2012 academic year. The the latest edition of the workshop, held this past 11 May, included the participation of PITA as its main protagonist. Its managing director, Alfredo S�nchez, detailed the achievements and most recent news concerning the organization, which constitutes “a powerful driving force behind the new economic model for Almer�a.”

The course took place at the PITA Science Centre, where Alredo S�nchez offered students his conference entitled “The Almer�a Science and Technology Park: a driving force behind the new economic model for Almer�a.” The coordinator of the Advanced Business Management and Administration degree programme, Professor Carlos Cano, presented the PITA Managing Director as “one of the top experts on the economic and productive reality of the province.”

Nine 'prize-winning' ideas at the 5th IDEAS Fair

A total of 83 business ideas and 135 entrepreneurs participated in the 5th IDEAS Fair organized by PITA in conjunction with the University of Almer�a (UAL) and the Regional Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Science. Nine ideas were awarded prizes and are described in detail in the PitaExpr�s Newletter.

The IDEAS Fair is an initiative that seeks to favor innovation in both productive and social spheres while also promoting the entrepreneurial spirit among university students. This year’s edition was quite successful in achieving its objective. The event saw the participation of 83 companies taking part in three categories: project-ideas, new companies (those functioning for less than a year but that had participated in previous IDEAS Fairs) and UAL Technology-Based Companies. Last year, there were 47 stands displaying the project-ideas of new companies, and there were 34 more that participated through the website; though many of these entrepreneurs attended the fair. Out of the 127 entrepreneurs participating, 34 percent were women.

Andalusian tech centres collect 10.5 million euros following announcement of Feder-INNTERCONECTA programme

Andalusian science and technology parks, all of which form part of the Andalusian Technology Centres Network (RETA), closed 2011 employing 36,959 workers. This figure reveals that companies and institutions based at the various tech centres in Andalusia have created 2,900 jobs, which translates to a 9% increase with respect to the previous year.

This fact is also one of the main indicators that stands out among the statistics compiled for 2011 by RETA. Said statistics were presented by RETA president, Felipe Romera, during the entity’s executive board meeting today at the main building of the Health Foundation Technology Park (PTS) in Granada.

Job growth at science and technology parks in Andalusia has been on the rise in recent years, and the figures speak for themselves - between 2008 and 2011, these tech centres have generated 17% more jobs.

PITA stand at Expo Agro displays Coworking offices available in its main building

The Almer�a Science and Technology Park (PITA) was once again present at the Expo Agro-Almer�a Fair, where it had its own stand in order to promote the facilities and services available at the park itself. In addition to the offices and laboratories for rent, with the ‘Pit�goras’ business centre now up and running, PITA could also offer its attractive new coworking areas. Promotion of this shared work space concept was carried out during the International Almer�a-Model Fair, a portion of Expo Agro.

Out of the 12 types of work spaces that PITA offers at its main building, Pit�goras, four were on display at the stand. The coworking concept, which was on exhibit, represents a solution that provides office space with a work station and shared expenses. PITA offers anyone starting a new business project the possibility to share work space with other entrepreneurs/business people, which includes equipment and services and costs merely 125 euros per month.

PITA Science Centre hosts launch of Ecomemi International Project for mine restoration

The Andalusian Technological Centre for Stone (CTAP) has chosen the PITA Science Centre to present the Ecomemi International Cooperation Project, whose members include Andanatura Foundation and the Moroccan Ministry of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment; among others.

This is an international cooperation project that is co-financed by the European Union, specifically by the European Fund for Regional Development, and the Spain Beyond Borders Cooperation Programme (POCTEFEX). The initiative is focused on the restoration of existing mines.

The Ecomemi Project (whose initials in Spanish stand for Economy, Environment and Mining) was approved at the end of 2011 and will be active until 2013. It intends to bring mining sector experts from both Andalusia and Morocco together on a stage where environmental sustainability is the common goal. Said project was launched at the Almer�a Science and Technology Park’s (PITA) Science Centre during the Economic, Environmental and Mining Conference. Present at the event were all of the top company directors from the entities that will lead and collaborate in this venture: CTAP, Andanatura, and the Moroccan Ministry of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment.
