New solutions to control Rhynchophorus Ferruqineus, red beetle plague
IFAPA chairman, Javier de las Nieves, has opened the technical conference hold at Almería Science and Technology Park (PITA) organized by the Technology Based Company Biointegra Medioambiental, Koppert and the Institute about “City Hall Management on palm trees threaten by red beetle plague”. De las Nieves has informed on the jobs carried out by the Institute to reduce treatment costs to fight this plague.
At this event, mainly addressed to town councillors and municipal technicians, de las Nieves has been accompanied by Alfredo Sánchez, PITA general director, who has shown his satisfaction for the interest aroused by this conference. “This Park has been created to incorporate knowledge and research into business environment. You cannot imagine how much satisfies to see so many people involved trying to do so; to see that researching and studies results can be transferred to companies and citizens.”
The Chairman of Agricultural and Fishing Research and Training Institute (IFAPA), that belongs to the Regional Ministry of Fish and Agriculture has thanked the members of the companies organising this event, José Miguel Fernández from Koppert España and Pedro Nieto, from Biointegra Medioambiental, for the kick off of this “interesting initiative”.
IFAPA has been researching and trialling during years on vegetables’ plagues and diseases fighting: “During the last years, our institute has counted on projects focused to find new formulas against this plague, by testing on traditional and biological control means out of budget of 350.000 Euros provided by the European Community funds. With this capital we have improved our knowledge in biology, early detection and strategies to control the red beetle”, as said by De las Nieves.
